 STUDENTS

The ALCI welcomes international students from around the world for whom English is a second language and who are planning to enroll in courses at Long Beach City College. The ALCI also welcomes those who would like to improve their skills for business or personal enrichment. Students that benefit most from studying in the ALCI are those whose language skills must be improved in order to successfully join and participate in general LBCC courses.

 INSTRUCTORS

The professional and caring ESL instructors at ALCI are highly trained in delivering lessons that help international students develop their English language skills. They also assist students in acclimating to American culture and campus life.

 ACADEMIC CALENDAR

  • Spring: 2 sequential nine week terms (A & B)
  • Summer: 1 seven week term
 RESOURCES & UNIQUE STRENGTHS

Academics is one of the many strengths of the ALCI program. The students follow a solid curriculum based on the most current, well-regarded academic ESL textbooks and materials available. The instructors are well trained, professional, and have years of experience helping international students meet their individual goals. Additionally, small class sizes ensure low student to instructor ratios and considerable individual attention.

Beyond the classroom, ALCI students enjoy all of the benefits of studying on a college campus. With classes located in the heart of the main campus of Long Beach City College, students are immediately integrated into the campus community and are able to take advantage of its facilities and activities. ALCI students enjoy using the college library, participating in student clubs, and attending athletic and special events.

Among the many advantages of preparing for college at the ALCI is the ease of transition into credit classes at LBCC. ALCI students are thoroughly prepared to participate and succeed in college classes. Upon completion of the program, they possess the required language skills and understanding of American college culture to confidently join one of the many AA or certificate programs offered at LBCC.
